A Santa Maria police pursuit involving a driver allegedly high on drugs and acting erratically ended in a crash on Monday afternoon, leaving two people with minor injuries.
A man making irrational statements called police at 11:33 a.m., prompting officers to search for him for a welfare check, said Santa Maria police Sgt. Nate Totorica.
Later, police were alerted about an erratic driver, prompting a pursuit through the city.
The chase ended when the driver struck a SMOOTH public transportation bus at approximately 1:30 p.m. at Union Valley Parkway and Orcutt Road, near the southern edge of the city.
The suspect attempted to get into another vehicle to flee, but officers stopped him, Totorica said.
Two people received minor injuries due the crash, according to Capt. Daniel Bertucelli of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
The suspect, whose name and age were not immediately available, was taken into custody.
He had told police he had used methamphetamine for three weeks, Totorica said.
The investigation closed the intersection for at least an hour.
