Tampa General Hospital and the University of South Florida are joining forces with Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital to expand surgery services for children.
An agreement announced Tuesday calls for pediatric general surgeons from All Children’s to work in Tampa General’s Children’s Medical Center, providing consultations and conducting procedures. They will specialize in general surgery, trauma surgery and prenatal counseling and intervention.
The partnership will “create a collaborative environment in which innovative ideas and best practices are shared, our students learn and our youngest, most vulnerable community members benefit,” Tampa General president and CEO John Couris said in a news release.
All Children’s surgeons will open a Pediatric General Surgery Clinic at Tampa General, inside the USF Health South Tampa Campus, where children and their families will be seen for pre- and post-surgery appointments.
The setup will provide USF Health students with hands-on learning opportunities and “demonstrate the power of academic medicine to the Tampa Bay community,” said Dr. Mark Moseley, associate dean for clinical affairs at USF Health Morsani College of Medicine.
“We are all committed to delivering world class care through the academic medical center at TGH, but also to train the next generation of health care professionals and make discoveries through research that translate to the bedside,” he said.
