The first day of school was Wednesday, Aug. 26, for the new Coffeen Early Childhood Center, the first educational stop for most pre-K children in the Hillsboro School District.
“We have 99 in person and 36 remote,” Principal Marci Gutierrez said.
Not only does Coffeen host most of the district’s pre-K program, it is also home to the First Steps birth-to-three program.
“We definitely underestimated our kiddos and their ability to come to school and tolerate a mask,” Gutierrez said of the start of the school year. “Parents helped out by dropping their kiddos off in the circle for temperature checks, instead of getting to walk them in on the first day. Everything went smoothly. The staffs of pre-K and First Steps have gone above and beyond to ensure this was a great start.”
