KOLO 8 News Now’s continuing coverage of the 2020 General Election
WASHOE COUNTY/OTHER LOCAL RACES
All eyes on Nevada, as the Silver State could be the final decider in the 2020 Presidential race. Results for Washoe and Clark counties have not yet been released.
At a press briefing on November 4, Washoe County Registrar of Voters Deanna Spikula said no updated results are expected until Thursday, November 5 at 10 a.m.
Spikula said they received about 9,000 mail-in ballots on Election Day and staff is in the process of tallying those ballots. She said staff can usually process about 20,000 ballots per day, but also said mail-in ballots take much longer to verify than in-person voting, and reported the volume of mail-in ballots is unlike anything the Registrar’s Office has seen before.
The Registrar said official final results would not be released until the Canvassing of the Votes on November 16.
The Secretary of State’s Office is expected to release updated results statewide Thursday, November 5 at 9 a.m.
Clark County is expected to release results Thursday, November 5 at 10 a.m.
KOLO 8 News Now has received numerous messages from voters that there is no indication on the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office website that their ballot had been cast or even counted. Spikula said it depends on how people voted as to when it will appear on the website, and said if someone dropped off their ballot on election day, there is a 24-hour lag time. She recommends voters check the status of their ballot on the Washoe County website, and said information from their office is then forwarded to the Secretary of State.

“We know that everyone wants results as quickly as possible, but it’s more important to be meticulous in verifying ballots and running a clean tabulation,” Deanna Spikula, registrar of voters, said. “We will update our results dashboard as regularly as possible and coordinate with the Secretary of State’s office to ensure clarity and transparency.”
In a press release, the registrar’s office said 429 provisional ballots and 4,744 ballots cast with same-day registrations will be counted after all mail-in ballots are counted, allowing the registrar to conclude all counting by the November 13 deadline.
