More men than “boys” today, the legendary R&B group Boyz II Men will bring their timeless hits and smooth soulful sounds to Springfield’s Symphony Hall on Sunday, Sept. 5, at 8 p.m.
The concert is presented by MGM Springfield.
Currently touring as a trio featuring Nathan Morris, Wayna Morris, and Shawn Stockman, Boyz II Men was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1988 as a quintet. They later found fame as a quartet (with Michale McCary until 2003) recording with Motown Records during the early 1990s.
The tour continues the group’s support of their 13th studio album, “Under The Streetlight.” The album follows “Collide,” which reached #37 on the Billboard 200. “Collide” was a landmark album for Boyz II Men, showcasing a new and different sound for one of the most successful and enduring groups in mainstream music. Two of the tracks, “Better Half” and “Diamond Eyes” were featured on a special episode of ABC’s hit show, The Bachelorette. Their Decca label debut, “Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville” in 2007 earned them two Grammy nominations.
In 2011, Boyz II Men marked their 20th anniversary by releasing a landmark album, fittingly titled “Twenty.” The album contained the group’s first original material in nearly a decade as well as a dozen remastered classics from their career.
Over the past three decades, the group has amassed an endless list of accolades, including four Grammy Awards. They have also won nine American Music Awards and nine Soul Train Awards, as well as three Billboard Awards, alongside a 2011 MOBO Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. In 2013, Boyz II Men began an ongoing residency at the Mirage Resort and Casino in Las Vegas for which they have been honored with the Casino Entertainment Award. In 2019 they were nominated for a CMT Award. And, they were also presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Outside of the recording studio, Boyz II Men have brought their talents to television appearing on FOX’s “Grease Live,” ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and “The Bachelorette” as well as on CBS’s “The Odd Couple.”
Beyond making music, giving back is also important to Boyz II Men - the group started its own charity called Boyz II Men House which has lended support to individuals and organizations that focus on improving quality of life and helping to unlock human potential, while contributing to the health and vitality of those less fortunate.
