PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Auditor’s Office counted 52 late-arriving ballots Friday, resulting in no change for the winners and losers in the top-two primary.
Voter turnout after Friday’s count was 36.8 percent. Of the 54,439 ballots mailed to registered voters, 20,012 had been counted by Friday.
For comparison, voter turnout in the 2020 primary was 60.7 percent. Clallam County’s voter turnout for the 2020 general election was 86.1 percent.
The top two vote-getters in Tuesday’s primary advanced to the Nov. 2 general election.
Here are the results:
• Port Angeles Mayor Kate Dexter and John Procter advanced to the general election for the City Council Position 4 race.
Dexter had 2,708 votes, Procter had 2,073 votes and Jon Bruce, who had suspended his campaign, had 280 votes.
• Appointed Port Angeles City Council member LaTrisha Suggs and Adam Garcia advanced to the general election in the Position 1 race.
Suggs had 2,392 votes, Garcia had 2,086 votes and John DeBoer had 591 votes.
• Incumbent Port Angeles City Council member Mike French and John Madden advanced to the general election in the Position 2 race.
French had 2,878 votes, Madden had 1,804 votes and Samantha Rodahl had 372 votes.
• Incumbent Port Angeles City Council member Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin and Jena Stamper advanced to the general election in the Position 3 race.
Schromen-Wawrin had 2,126 votes, Stamper had 1,913 votes and Jason Thompson had 1,082 votes.
• Kristi Schmeck and Virginia Sheppard advanced to the general election in a two-county race for Sequim School Board Position 4 in terms of number of votes. Schmeck suspended her campaign June 1, saying she was withdrawing, but because she had not withdrawn by the Monday after the May filing period ended, her name remained on the ballot for the primary election and will be included on the ballot in the November general election.
Schmeck emailed Michael Dashiell, editor of the Sequim Gazette, on Saturday that she is considering her options as to whether or not she will be back in the race for school board and will address the question later this week.
Rachel Tax came in third.
Schmeck had 3,032 votes, Sheppard had 2,986 votes, Tax had 2,809 votes and Derek Huntington had 1,632 votes.
• Jeff Nicholas and Duane Chamlee advanced to the general election in a two-county race for Sequim-based Clallam County Fire District No. 3 commissioner.
Nicholas had 6,217 votes, Chamlee had 3,838 votes and Sean Ryan had 874 votes.
The Sequim school board and Fire District 3 races included nearly 150 Jefferson County voters in the Gardiner area. The Jefferson County Auditor’s Office’s last count was on Thursday. It will count again on Aug. 17.
• Heather Jeffers and Karen Rogers advanced to the general election in an Olympic Medical Center commissioners’ race.
Jeffers had 10,772 votes, Rogers had 5,952 votes and Steven Blackham had 2,218 votes.
• Clint Wood and Josef Echeita advanced to the general election in a Forks City Council race.
Wood had 284 votes, Echeita had 149 votes and Barbara Neihouse had 45 votes.
• Mary Hebert and Gabi Johnson advanced to the general election in a Port Angeles School Board race.
Hebert had 2,804 votes, Johnson had 2,672 votes, Jesse Charles had 2,156 votes and Jean Stratton had 478 votes.
The next ballot count is scheduled for Wednesday. The primary election will be certified Aug. 17.
