UPMC employees step up to ensure smooth booster process - WPXI Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — UPMC, the state’s largest health system and nongovernment employer, will be ready if and when the next set of Covid-19 booster shots are approved by federal regulators.

Boosters for the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine have already gotten the greenlight, for the immunocompromised as well as people over 65 and younger people with the potential for severe disease. Advisory groups are weighing boosters for the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines in a process that could lead to similar recommendations for boosters.

The Pittsburgh-based health system, with 40 hospitals in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New York, said there’s plenty of supply for people to get boosters as appropriate and when they’re approved. Dr. Don Yealy, chief medical officer of UPMC, said that the national worker shortage, both in health care and other industries, won’t impact the system’s administration of Covid first, second and booster doses.
