New London — Workers were pouring concrete Wednesday for the new walkway from the Waterfront Park to Shaws Cove between the Bank Street Connector and Sparyard Street, part of construction underway on a portion of the multi-use recreational trail.
The city hired Portland-based H.E. Butler Construction Company to do the concrete work, which involves concrete for the walkway and bases for wind- and solar-powered street lights to be installed at a later date. The pathway is funded by a state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection $265,000 grant to the city through its recreational trails program.
The walkway runs atop the hurricane barrier at the end of Sparyard Street, adjacent to the railroad tracks and will connect to an existing but deteriorating path along Shaws Cove.
