National Consumer Protection Week takes place this week, and the Kansas Attorney General’s Office is bringing a free document destruction event to Emporia with that focus in mind.
Staffers will be at the Bowyer Community Building between 4-6 pm Tuesday. Residents are asked to bring no more than three small boxes or bags for shredding. All documents will be “securely transported” to a special shred facility and will be destroyed by certified shredding companies.
The Attorney General’s Office says a safe, secure shredding process is a key component in avoiding identity theft, which has exploded over the past decade.
