One man's attempt to steal from an Aransas Pass home improvement store ended with a needed improvement project to his get away vehicle.
Aransas Pass police posted a video of the suspected thief on its Facebook page Thursday morning.
The video shows a man in a long-sleeved shirt, khaki cargo shorts, tennis shoes and a mask entering Lowe's in Aransas Pass on July 25.
The man is seen taking two Paslode nail guns out of the store without paying. The man then puts them into a pickup and attempts to make a quick getaway.
Those plans didn't go so well.
As the man is attempting to leave in white Dodge Ram 1500, the driver's side door panel begins to come off.
The panel gets stuck and makes it difficult for the man to close the door, the video shows. After many attempts to close the door, the man begins to drive off with the door open.
That door struggle made it easy for Aransas Pass police to get the license plate on the pickup: BZ0 2888, the post states. Police later found the plate belongs to a different vehicle.
The pickup has damage to the rear bumper, tailgate and left rear quarter panel. The man appears to have red or brown hair and may have a tattoo on the left side of his neck, police said.
