Meet General Booty, a third-generation football standout with the greatest name in QB history - Sporting News

burongkarung.blogspot.com

His name is General Axel Booty. Yes, General Booty. No, not a typo.

Booty is more than a name, though. He's a Division I quarterback prospect, the latest in a long line of football players in the Booty family. His uncle, John David Booty, gained notoriety as the starting quarterback for USC. Now it's General Booty, a high school senior in the class of 2021, looking to make his mark with more than just his name.

“Obviously my name’s an attention-grabber and people like to do headlines with it, but I like to show people with my play that I can back it up, too,” General told The Dallas Morning News. “I have done that, I’m going to continue to do that as well, and give them a reason to remember my name.”

Here's what you need to know about General Booty as he closes in on his Division I future.

1. Where'd 'General' come from?

Booty's father, Abram, had a fascination with the Army growing up, according to The Dallas Morning News. He made the decision mentally when he was younger that if he had a son one day, he'd name him General.

The plan was for Booty's parents to call him by his middle name, Axel. But they told The Dallas Morning News that when Booty was young, he only answered to "General," and so that's what stuck.

2. Booty football heritage

General Booty is a third-generation quarterback standout. First came his grandfather, Johnny, who was a top quarterback recruit in high school and played at both Arkansas and Mississippi State in college.

Johnny had four sons: Josh, Abram (General's father), John David (pictured below) and Jake. Josh was named a USA Today All-American in 1993 and was also a first-round MLB Draft pick. Abram played wide receiver at LSU and had a brief stint with the Browns in the NFL. John David won two Rose Bowls at USC, and Jake was an all-state quarterback in high school.

“When you think of Shreveport (Louisiana), and you mention athletics, the Booty name is the first name that comes to mind,” General's mom, Amy, told The Dallas Morning News.

3. General Booty spent time at four high schools

The Booty family has moved around in recent years, which has meant General has spent time at four different high schools — two in California and then one in San Antonio before coming to Allen, Texas, for his senior year.

Allen High School might sound familiar. It's one of the biggest and best football high schools in Texas, and it calls one Kyler Murray an alumnus.

4. General Booty can play

Through Dec. 16, Booty had thrown 27 touchdowns in his senior year for Allen. The 6-3 senior had garnered five scholarship offers from Division I schools: Liberty, Louisiana-Monroe, McNeese State, Nicholls State and Yale.

Booty came through earlier this season with a touchdown pass with six seconds remaining to extend Allen's current winning streak to 83 games. You can see some of his highlights below (just don't search for his highlights on Twitter with "General Booty" as the term, because the site won't display any photos or videos):

Booty has yet to choose a college destination, but based on his play at Allen and the interest of Division I programs, he'll surely get to keep making a name for himself for four more years.
