FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The 101st Airborne Division held a change of command ceremony Friday at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, welcoming Maj. Gen. Joseph (JP) McGee as its new commanding general.
McGee is no stranger to Fort Campbell, having been assigned to the post multiple times throughout his career. He served from December 2006 to February 2009 as commander of the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st BCT (Bastogne).
McGee returned to Bastogne as its Brigade Commander from July 2011 until October 2013. McGee said he is glad to be returning to the installation.
“It’s wonderful to be back to Fort Campbell,” McGee said. “It’s a second home for me and my family, and it’s a tremendous honor to be here.”
McGee most recently served in Washington D.C. as Director of the Army Talent Management Task Force.
The event also marked the retirement of Maj. Gen. Brian Winski, who relinquished command of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) to McGee.
Update: A previous version of this article should have said Maj. Gen. Joseph McGee previously served as commander of 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st BCT (Bastogne).
