First week of phase two goes smooth for county - Rome Sentinel

In a COVID-19/coronavirus briefing Friday afternoon, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. reiterated that as the weather warms and regions across the state are working through phased re-openings, the pandemic virus is not going away and safety precautions should remain in place.

- 27 new positive cases (12 are nursing home residents), 1,097 total since counting began in March.

- No new positive fatalities, 58 total. There are currently 375 active positive cases.

- In hospitalizations, there 51 patients are hospitalized in Oneida County - 41 in the Mohawk Valley Health System and 10 at Rome Memorial.

- Three people are admitted to hospitals outside of Oneida County.

Progress

As Oneida County ended its first week in phase 2 of the state's reopening plan, Picente said things were going as smooth as possible.

But that wasn’t without a lot of work.

Since mid-March, he said the county has been in daily conversations with state officials trying to get information for residents and businesses in what is at times a very fluid and rapidly changing pool of state guidelines on day to day life and now phased reopening.

“The entire world has changed. Our community has changed,” he said, later adding, “hopefully we’ll get more and more answers every single day.”

As the weather warms, Picente asked county residents to “Be safe. Be smart,” and continue to practice social distancing.

The next scheduled county briefing will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9. The briefings are live streamed on the Oneida County Government Facebook page. For more information from the county on related topics and to access the Oneida County COVID-19 dashboard, visit: https://www.ocgov.net/
