To the Editor:
Welcome to Westerlo’s new acting town clerk.
These are crazy and uncertain times we are living in. Many towns are now being faced with the task of evaluating their budgets and planning for anticipated shortfalls in revenue.
While the Town of Westerlo is no different and unfortunately a widely unpopular decision was made recently, by a vote of 3 to 2, to lay off two highway workers (and in my opinion, a premature decision) we did see a bright spot emerge at our most recent town board meeting.
After being shocked and saddened to hear Kathy Spinnato will be retiring early from her position as town clerk, I can at least take comfort knowing that there will be a smooth and seamless transition with the most recent town board approval to appoint Deputy Clerk Karla Weaver as acting town clerk.
Ms. Weaver brings her experience with not only town-clerk responsibilities but also keen awareness of the needs of the residents of Westerlo. Ms. Weaver has had the benefit of working with former Town Clerk Kathy Spinnato and she also has the experience and training of having worked alongside the former town clerk and deputy clerk, Trudy Smith.
Ms. Weaver has also had experience in assisting the former code-enforcement officer. Her friendly and helpful approach with residents will continue to serve as a positive and welcome face for the town of Westerlo.
With the abundance of training and the experience she’s had as a deputy clerk, as well as her excellent customer-service skills, Ms. Weaver is poised to be an asset to the town of Westerlo.
I look forward to working together with Ms. Weaver in her new acting role as town clerk. I have every confidence she will succeed in this position. She has my support and I offer her my congratulations on this appointment.
