On Tuesday (15 November 2022) NATO’s Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, participated in a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union (EU) in its defence configuration.
The Secretary General and EU ministers discussed ways to further support Ukraine. In his doorstep before the meeting, Mr. Stoltenberg said it was important not to underestimate Russia, noting that the country retained "significant capabilities and a high number of troops". The Secretary General, who had met with Ukrainian troops being trained in the UK a few days ago, also underlined the importance of providing more training to Ukrainian forces. “We need to continue to provide support to Ukraine for as long as it takes with capabilities but also with training”, he said.
Military mobility was also part of today’s discussions. Military mobility is an important part of NATO-EU cooperation, Mr. Stoltenberg said, welcoming progress made to date, while stressing the importance of involving non-EU Allies to the fullest extent possible.
