The Astros hired Dana Brown as their general manager on Thursday, ending a 75-day search for James Click’s replacement by luring one of the game's most revered talent evaluators to Houston.
Brown, 55, spent the past four seasons as the Atlanta Braves' vice president of scouting and is credited with overseeing their recent run of draft successes. The Braves selected Spencer Strider, Vaughn Grissom and Michael Harris under Brown's watch. Harris captured National League Rookie of the Year honors last season. Strider finished second.
Most of Brown's front-office background is in scouting. Prior to his tenure in Atlanta, Brown spent nine seasons in Toronto as a special assistant to the general manager. He also served as the director of scouting for the Nationals/Expos franchise in the early 2000s.
Brown played three minor league seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies system before transitioning to the front office. He and Astros legend Craig Biggio were college teammates at Seton Hall.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
