At 82-years-old, Donna Mills is having yet another arc of her enduring television, stage and film career.  Mills, who is best-known for her role as the villainess Abby Cunningham Ewing on the beloved primetime soap opera, Knots Landing, sat down with CBS Sunday Morning for a special profile on her life and career.

‘Sunday Morning’s’ Tracy Smith sat down with Mills, where viewers got acquainted with her backyard vineyard, her latest role in the Lifetime limited-series, V.C. Andrews’: Dawn, where Donna plays the evil and ruthless Lillian Cutler, plus how she got her movie and soap start.

Mills used to play the damsel in distress ever since she was cast in Clint Eastwood’s Play Misty for Me.  She also appeared on CBS soaps, Secret Storm and Love is a Many Splendored Thing, but it was her role as Abby on ‘Knots’, that finally cast her in the role of the vixen.

Donna told Smith playing Abby gave her confidence, but there was a downside. Mills shared, “A confident man is like everybody thinks that’s great. A confident woman is sometimes, “A bitch.”

Looking back at her life, while at 54 and single, Mills adopted her daughter, Chloe. For Donna, she had decided in this moment to change her personal life for the better.  She related, “I thought, do I want to go through life without knowing what it’s like to be a mother… which is the most important thing in the world? No. I want that in my life, and by that time it was past the time I was going to be able to have a baby. So, I thought, I’ll adopt. And that’s what I feel is my greatest joy.”

Talking on her guest star role on General Hospital as the evil Madeline Reeves (a part that won her the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Performer), Mills revealed she thought that was not actually some of her best work.  Donna opened up on her Emmy victory and shared, “It’s so weird. I am so thrilled and grateful that I won an Emmy, but I don’t, at all, feel I did my best work on that show. I think maybe the Emmy was kind of for ‘other work’.  That’s the way I feel, but I don’t know for sure.”
