ICM pledged to reach 50-50 gender parity by the year 2020, with an emphasis on the leadership ranks, in Dec. 2017. Johnson replaces longtime ICM general counsel Rick Levy, who announced earlier this year he would be leaving the agency by the end of the year.
“We did a long and thorough search to fill this vitally important position within our agency and Julia’s experience, credentials, winning reputation and personality make her a perfect fit for ICM Partners. We could not be happier or prouder to have her join our senior executive team,” Harris and Crotty said in a joint statement.
While at APA, Johnson oversaw legal issues and helped launch APA Elevate; APA's Diversity & Inclusion Task Force; APA’s Anonymous HR Hotline; and APA's Leadership Program.
“I’m excited to be part of ICM’s trajectory, tremendous growth and working closely with the team to create bold new opportunities for the agency and its clients in this ever-changing landscape. What also really speaks to me is that the agency has been a cultural leader on issues hugely important to me such as fulfilling their industry leading 50/50BY2020 gender equity pledge, while making strong commitments to their Her/ICM, InQlusion, Diversify ICM and ICM Politics initiatives, all of which really resonate with me and my values," Johnson said in her own statement.
During her career, Johnson has had senior business and legal executive roles at major studios and networks, including ABC Studios, Fox21 and Universal Television, where she was head of business and legal affairs, as well as at Lifetime Television networks and BBC Worldwide Productions overseeing all deal making inside and outside the U.S.
Johnson is a guest professor and lecturer at UCLA School of Law, Loyola Law School and Cal State Los Angeles. She graduated from UCLA and the NYU School of Law, and is a member of the Law Review and an American Jurisprudence Award recipient.
