Spring semester classes are underway at Flint Hills Technical College.
College President Dean Hollenbeck says he's glad students are back, and he says college administrators are keeping a watchful eye on coronavirus developments. If there is any good news, he says there could be some positive budgetary impact.
Vice President of Student Services Lisa Kirmer says faculty, staff and students did an "outstanding job" of adapting to the coronavirus pandemic -- which means there shouldn't be any big adjustments for the spring semester.
Kirmer says students and employees also fill out a daily health assessment. If anybody develops symptoms, they go home and follow quarantine or isolation guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for returning to class.
Kirmer says in-class education is vital at the college because of all the lab work involved, so student buy-in has been an important part of the college not having any major shutdowns during the fall term.
Enrollment has dipped, both for the fall semester and the spring term, although spring enrollment continues.
