BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Fire crews were battling a fire Thursday morning at the Dollar General store on Telegraph Road near Sibley Road in Brownstown Township.
Part of the building has been destroyed by flames that started sometime early Thursday morning.
No serious injuries have been reported. The firefighters stayed outside of the burning building.
It’s unclear what caused the fire. However, firefighters spotted a pile of cardboard next to the building that may have been part of the cause.
Fire officials said there actually was a fire at this same Dollar General store two years ago. That fire was spotted early.
“The crews were able to get here a little quicker (two years ago) because the McDonalds across the street was open and somebody had seen the fire,” said Brownstown Township Fire Chief Jeff Drouillard. “In this case, the McDonalds was closed and this fire probably got going a little further before somebody noticed it. That’s why we’ve got more of an issue than we had before.”
The store was destroyed. A tattoo shop nextdoor sustained smoke and water damage.
