- Minnie Driver, 51, shared her gentle skincare routine for a healthy, moisturized glow.
- “As we grow older, our skin changes, and we can do lots of things to support it, but we should be kind and gentle with the process of aging,” she said.
- She shared her favorite serums, moisturizers, and the lip balm she’s used for years.
Believe it or not, British actress Minnie Driver is 51 years old. And while she does use some fancy serums to keep her skin smooth and glowing, her most important advice when it comes to aging is to be kind to your body—including your skin.
“As we grow older, our skin changes, and we can do lots of things to support it, but we should be kind and gentle with the process of aging,” she said in a “Go to Bed with Me” video for Harper’s Bazaar. “So drink a lot of water, get as much sleep as you can, have sex. That’s actually my recipe for a happy life.”
In other words, according to Driver, a happy life equals happy skin—no matter how old you are. But because we know you’re curious, here are the products she swears by to keep her complexion equally happy and healthy.
She removes makeup with an oil.
If she’s wearing any, that is. The Good Will Hunting star loves the makeup-melting powers of The Camellia Cleansing Oil 2-in-1 by Tatcha. “I’ve scrubbed my face for years before realizing that you can actually use these lovely oils. It’s kind of amazing how it takes off eye makeup, it takes off everything,” she said.
Harsh, drying toners are a no-no.
Instead, she uses a gentle, hydrating one—Lotion Yon-Ka—which she’s loved for “years and years and years” because it’s “super hydrating” and “very very gentle.” (Tracee Ellis Ross has consistently raved about the brand’s eye cream.)
Serums are applied on damp skin.
Damp skin is more permeable than dry skin, which means it absorbs skincare products more effectively when slightly wet. That’s why Driver applies serums before her hydrating toner fully sinks in.
Her two favorites are the Biologique Recherche Serum Extraits Tissulaires, which she doesn’t know much about but says it’s “magical”and “feeds” her skin, and Environ Youth’s EssentiA C-Quence Serum 1, which contains vitamin C.
“I don’t really exfoliate with anything abrasive but I’ve found that this [vitamin C] product seems to slough off whatever needs to be sloughed off and keeps everything very sort of tight and firm and plump,” she explained.
After serums, eye cream.
Some people don’t believe that eye cream is any more effective than a regular moisturizer applied under the eyes, but Driver is not part of that group. She stands by Dior’s Capture Totale Firming & Wrinkle-Correcting Eye Cream.
“I’ve significantly noticed the fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes—I would say they’ve significantly lessened since I began using this,” she said.

She “can’t live without” her favorite night cream.
Like many of her fellow actresses, Driver loves the highly raved about (and highly priced) Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream.
“There’s a lot of hype about this and it’s all true. It is completely and utterly amazing,” she gushed. “But it also lives alongside my other favorite moisturizer,” which is Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream.
Both of them, she says, even skin tone and fade dark spots while also leaving her skin hydrated, nourished, and soft the next morning.
She’s used the same lip balm for years.
“I used to get super cracked lips and I just don’t anymore,” she said, holding up Jack Black’s Intense Therapy Lip Balm. “It’s the greatest lip balm in the world.” She wears it every night and even mixes it in with lipstick on set. Bonus: It contains SPF 25 to protective the delicate skin on and around the lips.

She never neglects the skin on her body.
Before climbing under the covers, Driver slathers on Dr. Barbara Sturm Super Anti-Aging Hand Cream. “I have skin that tends to look a bit older on my hands. I think because of the freckles, they can look like age spots. But this hand cream has been lessening them and has really helped my cuticles and nails,” she explained.
Then, for the rest of her body, she goes in with a drugstore favorite that she’s used since she was a kid: Palmer’s Cocoa Butter. “It’s just deeply, deeply hydrating, it’s super inexpensive and remarkably effective,” she said.
Regular facials keep her skin in check.
The special lifting and firming techniques of renowned celebrity facialist Joanna Czech give Driver’s skin a regular dose of restoration, and she loves it. “[Joanna’s] one of the greatest human beings ever and she’s taught me a lot about my skin,” she explained, adding jokingly that she wishes she could live in her attic and get a facial every day.
But she doesn’t need to! Whatever she’s doing now is working quite well—like, really really working.
