Welcome Back to Campus: Resources for a Smooth Transition | | SBU News - Stony Brook News

Returning to campus full-time brings with it all the good things that have always defined the college experience, but can still be overwhelming and stressful. The truth is that higher education, like many aspects of our lives, won’t be returning to the way it was before the pandemic, and this can pose unique challenges for each member of the Stony Brook community.

In recognition of that, the university has developed a thoughtful, extensive and inclusive approach to help the community navigate returning to campus. Below is a list of resources and professional guidance available to help your transition be as stress-free as possible. Together we can build an inclusive post-pandemic work culture that is both rewarding and comfortable.

Stronger Together

The Stronger Together website offers a comprehensive source for COVID-19-related information and the most up-to-date guidance. Here you’ll find the latest information related to vaccines and testing, as well as safety protocols, latest news, events, and frequently asked questions for faculty, staff, students and campus visitors.

Employee Assistance Program

The Employee Assistance Program provides confidential guidance to help manage any personal or workplace issue. In addition to offering a wide range of COVID-19 resources, you’ll also find many other resources designed to improve overall well-being. Contact the EAP  at (631) 632-6085 or email eap@stonybrook.edu. For assistance after regular hours, call the New York State EAP at (800) 822-0244.

Healthier U, Happier Ü

Healthier U is Stony Brook University’s wellness initiative for employees. This program is designed to address your total well-being – mind, body and spirit. It hosts a variety of programs and wellness challenges throughout the year and offers a Wellness Portal available to all faculty and staff. Employees can set up an account and profile, complete a personal health assessment and then be provided a customized experience tailored to their individual health and wellness needs.

Happier Ü provides Stony Brook University faculty, staff, students, retirees and their families with a variety of ideas for small and simple changes to create positive effects in your life.

Ombuds Office

Stony Brook’s Ombuds Office provides the entire campus community a safe, confidential and neutral place to address concerns on virtually any conflict or crisis. It offers regular workshops as wells as quick tips on becoming resilient. Ombudsman Donna Buehler hosts weekly online informal chats to help resolve campus conflict and assist members of the community in improving their work or academic environment.

Student Health, Wellness and Prevention Services

Student Health, Wellness and Prevention Services empowers students to proactively seek support and develop skills to maintain personal health and well-being, providing compassionate individualized comprehensive care. Departments include: Student Health Service, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), the Center for Prevention and Outreach (CPO), the Student Accessibility Support Center (SASC) and Recreation and Wellness.

SASC offers a remote sensory space filled with links to help students relax, refocus and refresh, and will open a Sensory Room in the new Stony Brook Union in August. SASC also offers resources to help faculty navigate the new challenges of the post-pandemic academic environment.

Stony Brook Medicine: COVID-19 Resources and Resiliency Tools

Caregivers and other front line and essential workers are experiencing additional stressors related to the pandemic and the rapidly changing demands that come along with it. The Stony Brook Medicine website offers COVID-19 resources and resiliency tools, which includes sections on basic needs, children and families, depression and grief, stress and anxiety, and substance use, along with special sections for healthcare workers and other specific communities (LGBTQ+, older adults, pregnant and postpartum parents).
