Kevin Colbert will step down as the general manager of the Pittsburgh Steelers following the 2022 NFL draft, according to NFL Network reporters Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Colbert assumed the role of director of football operations with the Steelers in 2000, returning to his hometown after a stint with the Lions. The team’s first general manager not named Rooney, he has overseen the construction of two Super Bowl championship teams and three AFC championship teams. His tenure has been highlighted by the careers of Hall of Famers Troy Polamalu and Alan Faneca and, along with Ben Roethlisberger, who could join them in five years.

Rapoport noted in his article the likely internal replacements are vice president of football and business administration Omar Khan and pro scouting coordinator Brandon Hunt.

Both have received multiple interviews from other NFL teams. Khan was hired by Colbert in 2001; Hunt, who started with the team as a scouting intern in 2005, worked for the Texans for three years before returning to the Steelers as a pro scout in 2007. He was promoted to his current position in 2010.

The Steelers traditionally named the acting owner as the formal general manager, a direction that changed before the 2010 season, when Colbert was given that title. A North Catholic and Robert Morris graduate, Colbert has been involved in scouting and management since 1990.
