An agent with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office in Allentown has been arrested after investigators found child pornography on his home computer, authorities said.
The Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office Monday announced the charges against 39-year-old Joshua Steven Gonzalez of South Whitehall. Gonzalez is charged with third-degree felony child pornography.
Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Pamela Lehman told lehighvalleylive.com Gonzalez was taken into custody sometime Monday.
Authorities say Gonzalez used his computer to upload videos of children. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip that someone uploaded the videos between Oct. 28, 2022, and April 12, 2023, the DA’s office said.
A court order was obtained and later it was determined the downloaded videos came from Gonzalez’s computer, authorities said.
Gonzalez is employed as an agent with the Attorney General and is assigned to the Allentown office, the DA’s office confirmed. It’s unclear how long he’s been working for the department. A spokesperson with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office didn’t immediately respond to a request for information.
Lehigh County Det. Rob Toronzi with the Lehigh County Computer Crimes Task Force and representatives of the Officer David M. Petzold Memorial Digital Forensics Laboratory of Lehigh County are leading the investigation.
Gonzalez was arraigned Monday morning before District Judge Jacob E. Hammond, who set bail at $50,000 unsecured. Court records did not indicate attorney representation yet for Gonzalez.
