Mahoning board works hard for smooth election | News, Sports, Jobs - Youngstown Vindicator

DEAR EDITOR:

First, this is to salute the doctors, nurses and first responders for their special skills during this crisis. I especially thank the Health Department, Disaster Services Office, County Commissioners and Sheriff’s Officers of Mahoning County for everything they have done to keep the office of the Mahoning County Board of Elections safe. There are so many heroes to thank; they have worked during this disaster to allow our entire county to function.

I also want to, before election day, thank my heroes — the staff of the Mahoning County Board of Elections. This staff has worked tirelessly from February through now to conduct an election for Mahoning County voters. During the highest point of our epidemic, they endangered themselves by coming to the office with smiles and great attitudes toward the job they were doing.

The staff has handled thousands of phone calls — some very nice, some not so nice — mailed thousands of applications, processed over 40,000 ballots and done it all with an attitude to do the best job they could for the voters of our county so that anyone who was registered and wanted to vote could vote. We have cleared every hurdle, and we will cross the finish line on Tuesday.

In Ohio, there is one secretarty of state and 88 boards of election. Each one is doing its best to perform the duties set before them — keeping democracy fair and free for us all.
