The Aberdeen Town Board reported a smooth trend despite the COVID-19 crisis at Monday’s regular board meeting.
Building permit demand is strong and is in an “interesting trend,” according to Aberdeen Town Manager Paul Sabiston. The rate of permits issued is up 28.35% compared to this time last year. This accounts for both residential and commercial construction. The trend was also revealed in property and sales taxes being ahead of schedule.
Also, on Oct. 1 at 10 a.m., the groundbreaking for the new police department will take place and several state representatives have been invited. Over the next two weeks, the installation of the new street lights will be completed.
The Town passed a traffic reconfiguration plan for Meadow Ridge, Abilene Lane, and Whitney Drive Monday evening. Traffic from the landfill was a concern, and speed issues will be monitored after a complaint was made.
In other business, the corporate limits of the Town of Aberdeen were extended and changed from residential to commercial for Darrell and Teresa Cole for all of lots 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15, as shown on a map entitled “Auman Sub-Division” made by B. W. Paschal in 1950 and recorded in Map Book 3 Page 82 Moore County Registry.
The four parcels are also identified as PID 00049459, PID 00049466, PID 00051318, and PID 00051316 by the Moore County GIS and total approximately 1.15 acres. With approximately 250 feet of N.C. 5 Highway road frontage, the four vacant parcels are located approximately 225 feet south of the Linden Road intersection with N.C. 5 Hwy.
During the meeting, Mayor Robert Farrell introduced “special person” Mollie Colasacco who presented her Girl Scout project to recycle fishing line. At least one of six closed-system PVC pipe recycling stations with a generous depository will be installed at Aberdeen Lake. Colasacco will earn her Silver Award with this project.
The Town Board will hold its work session on October 12 at 6 p.m.
