The second afternoon trunnion commute is shaping up better than the first, with traffic congestion on southbound Interstate 5 and limited congestion on northbound traffic from Portland.
As of just before 4 p.m., southbound traffic was backed up from before the state Highway 500 merge as cars maneuvered from three lanes to one to cross the bridge. Northbound traffic gets two lanes on the span for the afternoon commute.
The morning commute was smooth in Vancouver, with only limited initial southbound slowing in the mile before the Interstate 5 Bridge. For the second day northbound traffic backed up in Portland approaching the bridge.
Interstate 205 wasn’t showing any slowing or traffic issues.
On Monday, traffic through Vancouver saw few problems until a crash on the bridge in the southbound lane in the afternoon, stopped all traffic.
