Voters were making their way to the polls during the first week of early voting with more than 11,000 ballots cast as of Thursday.
According to information from Montgomery County Elections, 111,178 people voted early with South County Community Center seeing the largest turnout with 2,485 ballots with the West Montgomery County Community Development Center seeing the second most voters with 1,520.
County officials had no issues to report as voters made their way out to cast ballots. However, Election Administrator Suzie Harvey reminded residents polls would be closed Monday in observance of President’s Day.
Last month, county commissioners added the two new locations for the March 1 primary in anticipation of higher voter turnout due to the gubernatorial election.
The new locations, the Security Community Center, 18760 Texas 105 in Cleveland and the East Montgomery County Community Development Center, 16401 1st Street, Suite 100 in Splendora saw 135 and 277 voters respectively.
Early voting continues Sunday and then Tuesday through Friday. Polls will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 20 and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 22-25.
Election day is March 1.
Like previous elections, officials are urging residents to continue to take precautions against the spread of COVID-19 by voting early to avoid large crowds, wear a mask and use hand sanitizer.
