Winterfest was off to a slow start due to — of all things — too much snow.
But, officials expect smooth sledding for the rest of the weekend.
Travel conditions throughout the region caused some delays for some of the mushers who planned to travel to the event in time for the long-distance race on Friday.
The weather also caused the event tent to collapse, so there were no craft nor food vendors on site on Friday.
The sledding hill was open, and the Warren County YMCA held its Family Movie Night. With help from the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry, there was hot cocoa available for a donation to benefit the Y.

Friday’s slow start is not expected to have any lasting impacts. Chapman State Park, WCCBI, and Winterfest officials are expecting all events to proceed on schedule for the rest of the weekend.
“It was a challenging start,” WCCBI Director of Tourism John Papalia said Friday. “Thanks to some wonderful volunteers, we have the event tent back up. Vendors will be setting up tomorrow morning and we should be back on schedule.”
“We expect a full slate for the sled dog races tomorrow and again Sunday,” Ed Atwood, coordinator of the Jim Lodbell Memorial Sled-Dog Races, said Friday.
