Former Montreal Canadiens executive Scott Mellanby interviewed for the Chicago Blackhawks' general manager position, the team announced on Saturday.

Mellanby, who was with Montreal from 2012 to 2021, resigned from his position as assistant GM in November after being told he was no longer in the running for the Canadiens' general manager opening, according to The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun. He had been AGM since 2014 after previously working as the Canadiens' director of player personnel. Mellanby spent 21 years in the NHL as a player with the Flyers, Oilers, Panthers, Blues and Thrashers.

The Blackhawks have already interviewed interim GM Kyle Davidson and Carolina assistant general manager Eric Tulsky. Blues vice president of hockey operations Peter Chiarelli was the first person outside the organization to reportedly be interviewed. A source told The Athletic that the Blackhawks were expected to interview at least five people.
